Description
Objectives of the course (preferably expressed in terms of learning outcomes and competences): This course provides an introduction to a variety of statistical methods of use in describing and analyzing biological data. It includes a laboratory component in which biological data are analyzed using statistical software. No prior knowledge of the software will be assumed.
Course contents: Types of biological data. Descriptive statistics. Theoretical and sampling distributions. Estimation – point estimation, confidence intervals. One- and two-sample hypothesis testing. Chi-square goodness of fit. Contingency tables. Analysis of variance (one- and two-factor) and multiple comparisons. Simple linear regression and correlation. Multiple regression and correlation. Some nonparametric statistical methods.
